I am semi-retired and enjoying the pace of living in a rural part of Virginia, near the Chesapeake Bay. My time evaporates quickly in volunteer work, writing, editing for others, teaching and coaching other writers, needlework, beginner's art, supporting the local library, public speaking, readings, and book signings.
On Gather, I'm Looking For ...:
Information exchange with other writers of creative nonfiction, especially those working on book-length memoirs. I'd also like to find speaking opportunities -- to support my victim advocacy work, to promote my current and future books, and to woo clients for my workshops and writer-coaching services.
I think we do have some mutual interests. I love to read, and I'm currently thinking about writing a novel, although I'm not sure how I will begin it, what it will be about yet, and what the focus will be yet. I need some time to think about all of this, and lately with an almost 1 year old and school and life, I don't seem to have too much time for anything. Anyway what kind of books do you write? Any good books you suggest reading? Right now I'm reading 1984 by George Orwell. I love books that have to do with Utopia's and such. Have a good day :)
Hi Barbara! I"m glad you found me on Gather. I post almost daily, although a lot of it is shameless self promotion. But stick with me for the jokes and other writer-related stuff!
I pick and choose who and what I respond to, and comment on. Some Gather friends are closer than others, and some of the good writers have given me great feedback and so I try to comment on their writing. The personalities of folks start to show after a couple of months. It's fun. And there are some incredibly good writers kind of squirreled away. Try Edward Nudelman's poetry and John Phillips' humor.
